Being responsible for the care of animals is often a great introduction to helping a young child in the understanding and support of the needs of others. Unfortunately, in many cases, the setting is not able to facilitate the care needs of a live animal/pet. Some children will have visited a veterinary surgery with their family pet, and the vet starter set provides medical items often familiar to them, to nurse the animals, bandage sore paws and give vital injections. Poorly patients can be transported in the little pet carrier and the animal can rest on a cosy bed before they are treated by the vet. Some children may also choose to become the ‘pet patient’ and undergo treatment to help them understand their own medical experiences within a safe environment.

A delightfully detailed reference book is provided to indicate the role of a vet.
