Welcome to the Wise Bird Company!

Welcome to the Wise Bird Company. I know what it is like to be at the helm of a busy childcare setting with all the demands on your time and expertise from every corner along with marketing, show rounds, meetings, training, staffing and paperwork whilst trying to keep on the ‘good’ side of every budget…need I say more?

An extremely important part of your role is obviously ensuring the children have full access to provision and activities that promote and build on their different interests whilst linking with all the requirements of the EYFS. Enabling practitioners to use any purchased material effectively to support the children’s needs is crucial.

Drawing on my many years of childcare experience, I have worked hard to create different sets of resources that support a variety of play activities and room areas. The sets are designed to be starting blocks for practitioners to build on. I also include an information sheet to enable effective planning and use of each set, this would be especially valuable to junior and less confident members of the staff team.

Wise Bird Story Bags

The bags are fashioned with young children in mind.

Rather than drawstring designs which are often difficult for little hands to use and can present strangulation hazards, they are made using mainly soft fleece fabric and are easily accessed and closed with velcro fastening.

The fabric maintains a fresh appearance and can be machine washed or wiped frequently with a dampened cloth. There is also an amount of elasticity within the fabric which tends to prevent rips and tears from happening when the bag is repeatedly filled and emptied.

A simple tag on the corner enables the bag to be hung on a hook for easy storage.

Traditional tales are used and well sourced items support each story. For durability and steering away from plastic where possible, we have provided knitted characters for the story teller to use alongside other items made from natural materials. Again, these offer more durability when being played with and are very easy for young children to handle.

Each story bag has an information sheet to support practitioners when introducing the story to the children and some ideas on how to further develop children’s interests on a wider scale.

Wise Bird Rhyme Bags

The rhyme bags are new. We developed these following the success of our story bags and noting that these were resources that would be beneficial to the younger children as well.

Whilst auditing childcare settings, I would very often discover a lack where music, rhyme and rhythm was concerned, the music area would commonly be a box of tired instruments without a defined area provided Songs and rhymes were very often relating to those shown on children’s television or the same old standard ‘Baa Baa Black Sheep’ and ‘Twinkle Twinkle Little Star’.

Rhyme and rhythm is a great starting point for language and communication skills, the introduction of more traditional songs and rhymes would truly benefit everyone.

Each rhyme bag contains knitted characters and items using natural materials where possible, to illustrate the rhyme within a group. To enhance learning and development within the ‘fives’ series, there are also hats that the children can wear and added props to enable children to become partakers in the rhyme on a larger scale.

An information sheet is also provided to support practitioners using the rhyme resources to help them engage the children and promote further interest.
